Dear AMFA Represented Members at Alaska Airlines
Subject: AMFA NMB Filing Update
The NMB filing process is currently underway with some resistance from the IAM. AMFA submitted its
application to the National Mediation Board (NMB) for single representation of the combined single
carrier between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines on May 12th, 2025. The NMB docketed our
submission on May 14th, 2025 as docket# CR-7265. The docketing of our submission was the first step by
the NMB to recognize our submission and assign a case number.
The NMB gave Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines until May 28th, 2025 to submit their position/response to
the AMFA filing for single representation status for the combined air carrier. Alaska Airlines will be
affirming its position in the sense that there is a merger of air carriers between Alaska Airlines and
Hawaiian Airlines. The NMB has also asked the two merging carriers to provide the NMB with a list of
its Unionized employees who are covered under the Union representation filing. Alaska requested and
was granted an extension for this submission of paperwork until June 11th, 2025
Upon submission of the single carrier representation NMB filing, the IAM has requested and was granted
an extension until July 9th. This extension is seen as a stalling tactic and one that was avoidable. The
extension allows for the IAM to submit its position statements to the NMB, regarding the June 11th filings
by the carriers. The original date for the IAM submission was June 25th,2025.
Date Summary:
- June 11th 2025: Air Carrier submission statements to NMB for the combined carrier status.
- July 9th, 2025: IAM extension date for submission of its statements, regarding the combined
carrier status of the merging airlines.
Sincerely,
Brandon Statfield, AMFA Local 14 ALR
Jeff Heard, AMFA Local 32 ALR
